Under cash accounting, income and expenses are recorded when cash is received and paid. In contrast, accrual accounting does not directly consider when cash is received or paid. To record accruals on the balance sheet, the company will need to make journal entries to reflect the revenues and expenses that have been earned or incurred, but not yet recorded. For example, if the company has provided a service to a customer but has not yet received payment, it would make a journal entry to record the revenue from that service as an accrual.
